Maria de Jesus Serra Lopes

Born in Lisbon in 1933.

Law degree from the Lisbon Classic University (1957)), completed the Comparative Law Course of Strasbourg International College of Law (1967). She has lectured Law of Obligations, Introduction to the Study of Law and Contracts in the College of Law of Lisbon Free University.  Has chaired the Portuguese Bar Association (1990-1992). State Counsellor (1996-2005). Member of the European Commission for Democracy Trough Law, of the Council of Europe (1995-2003).

Admitted to the Portuguese Bar Association since 1959 and to the Brazilian Bar Association since 1975.

Member of several professional organizations, including the International Bar Association and the Arbitration Centre of the Lisbon Commercial Association. National Vice-President of the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA).
