João Tiago Morais Antunes, partner at SLCM, whose legal practice is developed, principally, in the areas of civil and commercial litigation, in an article published in the magazine Vida Judiciária (July/August 2016 issue) dedicated to the 50 years in effect of the Portuguese Civil Code, defends that the main reason why the Portuguese Civil Code has survived for 50 years, without vast and/or significant changes, is because of its intrinsic quality, as well as the depth of its foundations, which permitted the Portuguese Civil Code to constantly and permanently adjust to the existing economic and social reality, fulfilling, that which is its main function: to serve as a clear and secure basis, to the various legal relations that private individuals and the State (when free of its normal authority powers) freely establish amongst themselves.
